PROSE, INA - in a belated obituary, passed away July 8, 2009. She was 84 years old and died comfortably at her home, where her son Charlie Prose watched after her for many years. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Dr. James Prose. Her current family includes children, Jim and wife Cheryl Prose, Charles Prose, Sissy and husband Bruce McMullen; grand children, Heather and husband Travis Deyton and Anna McMullen. From the Greensboro NC area are nieces, Ann Thornlow and Karen Culpepper, Tina Miller and mom’s sister, Tava Miller. She was a generous woman who was a nurse anesthetist (the first in Knoxville in the early 50’s) , sold magazines at Mt. Olive elementary school with Willene Rush for the PTA, trained national championship ponies, raised German Shepherds and loved each and everyone of us to no extent. Ina Prose was an army nurse during the last months of WWII and treated those military guys so kindly. She could spell any word and knew pretty much anything. Lord the stories she could tell about growing up poor in NC, but always having a hoot of a time with her brother and sisters. She was amazing. Please send contributions to Young-Williams Animal Center, 3201 Division St., Knoxville, 37919, in memory of her.

My brothers and I appreciate the donation to the Young-Williams Animal Center in memory of our mom, Ina Prose. She really was a special lady who truly enjoyed this neighborhood in her earlier years. We do hope this sweet road and community will come back and be as it was from the start in the 50's... so many children to play with and you could run around the neighborhood at night with no worries. You are a great part in doing this by helping us all remember each other. You know Virginia Johnson is living in an Alzheimer's village now... what great fun we had at their house... even rode our pony into their yard and would jump up to grab the tree limbs as we rode under (Homer of course put a quick stop to that because we were tearing up his lawn!!!) The Johnson house looks so nice with the new painted brick and landscaping...
Please keep Virginia Johnson in your prayers. She and Homer were great friends with our parents and watched many a football game together before Homer and dad would fall asleep on the living room floor. WHAT A WONDERFUL LIFE WE HAD IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD WITH THE CAVES, CREEKS, PATHS AND STEEP HILLS! We hope many new families with children move in to take our places. The cave used to be down on Maloney Rd across from one of the houses on the river, but has now been landscaped over so you would never know it was even there. Kids used to walk a long way to have fun. There is a spring-fed creek in the gully between our house on Timberlake and the Johnson's, but it is a steep climb... feel free to go look... kind of cool... salamanders and such...
Anyway, thank you and the Timberlake Community Club for remembering mom... she always loved the animals.
God Bless You,
- Sissy, Charlie and Jim Prose

Thank you to the Timberlake Community Club in memory of Ina Prose. I wish you all could have seen the log home we used to live in that Brockway Crouch (florist) built with the boy scouts before it was torn down. It was really cool…
