Part II – Living History
Introduction
This “Living History” section of the Timberlake History Project includes personal stories, photos, and accounts that neighbors have submitted or related through e-mails and phone calls. It is intended that this section be updated occasionally to include new material from (and about) former, current and future residents. The pleasant task of maintaining, collecting and sharing this passage of history extends to all residents. If you have something you’d like to share, please submit it to one of the Timberlake Community Club board members. (This invitation extends to any former neighbors as well!)
For current residents interested in researching their property’s history, the Timberlake History Project is a great excuse to contact and initiate a dialog with past owners. Former home owners and family members are usually excited to share their memories, and — quite likely — they can help solve those puzzling oddities that every house or yard contains. Understanding the background of your home will add to your own appreciation of it while you live there; and, if you should ever put the house on the market, knowing the history of the home can add monetary value to the property. If you're looking for clues, check out the property owner list in Appendix A, which includes public records and a few notes garnered while researching this project.
The first entry in Part II – Living History is by Ann Hake. Ann and David Hake landed on Timberlake in 1972 (right about the middle of the neighborhood’s history) and were positioned with a golden opportunity to know many of the earliest generation of neighbors… along with all the rest of us since! With the exception of Ann’s essay, Memories of Home, which gets things rolling, the remaining submissions are organized by street address — starting at the Montlake end of Timberlake. The street number and general subject (owner(s) the information is about) are listed below and at the top of each page with the contributor’s name and any other additional information.
