About The Timberlake Neighborhood
Established in 1947
The Timberlake neighborhood is located in Knox County, Tennessee, on a section of Chapman's Ridge tucked between Alcoa Highway (route 129) on the east and Fort Loudoun Lake on the west. It is accessed by Montlake Drive off of Alcoa Highway, about two miles south of the Tennessee River bridge, or from Maloney Drive off Alcoa Highway from the south.
The neighborhood includes 37 houses and 4 undeveloped lots on Timberlake Drive, four houses on Maloney Road and one house on Montlake Drive. The majority of houses and lots in the Timberlake community are in the Maloney Heights Subdivision developed by Maloney Heights Inc., established in 1947.
From its inception, the location has attracted UT professors, TVA employees and people drawn to Smoky Mountain vistas. Secluded properties, large lots, abundant wildlife, easy access to the Loudoun lake, and convenient proximity to downtown are some of the many benefits enjoyed by residents. The Loudoun Lake Dogwood Trail crosses through the Timberlake neighborhood, showcasing unique homes and a hilly wooded landscape that lives up the the name Timberlake.
Residents of the Maloney Heights subdivision formed the Timberlake Community Club (TCC) in 1951 by filing a Tennessee State Charter of Incorporation “for the purpose of maintaining a club for the social enjoyment and general welfare of the Timberlake Road Community and its residents.” While a social agenda was the primary stated purpose, the charter also established legal provisions for enforcement of by-laws and subdivision restrictions. The incorporated status also helped provide credibility for dealing with issues that affected the neighborhood. Throughout the years, the duties of serving on the TCC board and committees have been shared by residents of nearly every home in the neighborhood.
In 2009, the TCC board completed what became the "TImberlake History Project" in order to document available facts and to record some personal local lore about the 60-year old neighborhood. It's a unique story, so take a look around!
